Bioraptors are highly aggressive creatures with the ability of flight and a phobia of light, as they can die if exposed to enough direct light (possibly due to a chemical they injested that reacts violently with light). They are possibly native to planet M-344/G, and caused the extinction of most life on the planet. Every 22 years, M-344/G undergoes a month long eclipse, in which the bioraptors emerge from their underground dwellings.

The InfantsEdit

When the lights go out, these are the first that appear. An immense number of these appear at the onset of the solar eclipse and tend to fly around in flocks. Combined they are extremely deadly, as their combined strength and numbers can literally tear a person apart, as demonstrated by the dismemberment of Sharon Montgomery in Pitch Black.

The AdultsEdit

Called the "big boys", these beasts eventually emerge from underground shortly before total eclipse. Being cave-dwellers, these creatures have no eyes, but instead have ultrasonic sensors on long stalks on both sides of their heads. Sound waves reflecting back into these sensors allow the Bioraptors to create a rough outline of an environment inside their minds, similar to the ultrasound used by bats. However, due to how widely spaced they are, there is a blind spot directly between them as Riddick discovers. Their heads are guillotine-shaped and razor sharp. They have long tails that end with two tips, and can use them to catch and drag helpless prey, or stand high upon the ground, with the help of the lift force produced by their wings. Their feet double as hands complete with opposeable thumbs, sharp claws and long spikes (or tongues, it is unclear which) that extend from their wrists to impale their prey. They are stronger than an average human (Riddick was able to kill a single one on his own, albeit with great effort, and two were able to overpower him), and seem to be able to smell blood, as they show a distinct preference for the menstruating Jack.

Surviving UndergroundEdit

As most other preferable food sources seem to be dead, the Bioraptors actually survive by consuming each other. The adults seem to prefer eating their young, but as the movie progresses they grow more desperate and start to eat each other. This vicious life cycle would insinuate that they reproduce in extremely high amounts, as it would seem that many would be eaten in order to survive.
